Release Athens Festival

June 1, 2, 7 & 13/2016

For many, this will be summer’s most important event – at least in regard to the concert stage. The first Release Athens festival brings some of the international scene’s greatest names to the Plateia Nerou, at the Olympic Pole Faliro, and promises to release the life-giving forces of the city. It begins on 1/6 with Beirut, the popular indie/folk and world music band, while Parov Stelar, the artist who defined the sound of electro swing, comes on the 2/6. PJ Harvey, among the top names of contemporary rock ’n’ roll, is performing on the 7/6, while on the 13/6 it is the turn of Icelanders Sigur Rós, one of the biggest post rock bands. And there are more t.b.a. as we get closer to the event!

Until June 30/2016

The Frissiras Museum opens its collections presenting works by 67 European artists in homage to the overlooked value of female art. “What makes painters great is not their gender –their masculinity, femininity or bisexuality: it is their individuality, personal talent and genius,” notes historian and writer Soti Triantafyllou on the exhibition. “Art follows society –or precedes it– in a process of transformation from gender distinction to the utopia of gender-blindness.”
