The bankrupt aristocrat Anzoletto and the cantankerous Cecilia are about to move into their new home. He is in love, but penniless and struggles to keep up with the demands of his vain wife. The trap of pretentiousness and the anxiety of climbing the social ladder are the main issues raised in the timeless and topical comedy “The New House” by Carlo Goldoni. As the director of this impressive National Theatre production Yiannis Skourletis notes: “This utopian home will never be inhabited. The ego’s desires are stronger than the desire of being together”. Performances on Thursdays and Saturdays are presented with English subtitles. (Until 09/02/2020, n-t.gr)
